History
In 2004, while working as a teacher’s aide,
I noticed that students were throwing away school supplies that could
still be used. With the help of some great students, boxes were placed
in the hallway and an announcement was made letting students know what
to do if they had supplies they wanted to donate instead of throw away.
The response was fantastic and the boxes overflowed with supplies. We
found that students will do the right thing if they are given the opportunity.
The following year five schools donated supplies. Each year it has grown;
in 2009 we had 35 participating schools across Monroe County. Our list
of receiving organizations has also grown to include individuals in
need, teachers/schools serving underprivileged students and tutoring
programs. |
